Honiton Lace Pillow
The shape of the Honiton Lace Pillow allows it to sit comfortably on the knees and to be turned 360 degrees to allow working of motifs from all directions, remember Honiton is not a straight lace.  Being almost round also allows a piece of lace to be worked on both sides if the bobbins are removed and pins pushed home on one motif.

The Honiton Pillow is conctructed with chopped barley straw for the following reasons:
a.    It was always available to the workers from the fields.
b.    It does not powder up or disintigrate unlike other straw  (wheat or grass) and holds its firm qualities for many years unlike wool or does not give off dust like sawdust.
c. It provides a good firm base but still has a little give to allow for under thread access when doing sewings.  This is unlike modern day polyfoams etc. which have no give, fall to pieces with repeated pinning, and do not have a good solid feel when held on the knee or pillow stand.
