Lace: Tönder Lace

Tonder lace is named after a city in Denmark where it has become best
known. It is very similar to Bucks Point but has it's own more flowing
designs. The background mesh is made from twisted threads and a heavy gimp
outlines the motifs.
This lace also incorporates decorative filling stitches including 'honeycomb' and others. A festival is held every 3 years, the last one being 2001. For Impressions of that festival click here. ![]() |

Many small local Danish museums have headdresses with Tonder lace, as it was part of the dress of a well-to-do farmer's wife in the 19th cent. in many areas.
