
Lacemaker lamps used a globe of wter to reflect the light of a candle and increase the ammount of light so they could work better indoors when the weather was bad.
The one shown in the etching above is part of a stand. Some stands held 3 or 4 globes for several lacemaker to work from the same candle. (see below)

The following resemble lacemakers lamps but not all of them are. Lacemakers were usually poor and could not afford expensive lamps. Theese were more likely reading lamps for the middle class.
