Pellestrina 40 km to Venice

Maria Mazzaron, is one of Pellestrina lace makers who carries on the old tradition of bobbin lace, which is made on a bobbin, called "balon"  in the Venetian dialect. The laces and the series of flowery scallops on tablecloths and underwear are part and parcel of traditional production. These laces are considered among the best in the world, incomparable for the perfection of their execution and the fineness of the design.

Maria Mazzaron also makes needle laces, as in the picture.

Quote from http://www.venetian-lace.com/history.html
"It was about this time that production was moved to the islands of the Venetian lagoon: needle lace to Burano, bobbin to Pellestrina. It is here in the convents, in the homes and in the schools that the natural development of this work will flourish. "
