Antique handmade bobbin lace with a six-point star mesh known variously as Point de Paris mesh, Jewish mesh, and other names. Antwerp is an arbitrary choice for a name. Santina Levey's book "Lace" shows similar laces ascribed to LePuy, France, in the mid-1700s, other texts ascribe similar laces to Italy. A pair of twisted threads, often called a ring pair, surrounds all the clothwork, a technique found in Valenciennes laces. White, probably linen, and of very soft thread. ![]() |
