Point d'Angleterre

There is a lot of controversy about the source
of  Point d'Angleterre.
The most commonly held thought is that it was made
in Belgium  and named as an English lace
so it could be sold in England
despite the import restrictions.

This lace is a mixed lace,
 predominately bobbin lace with
only a few needlelace details.

The lappet art the left contains
most of the identifying details
found in this lace.

Notice in this detail some of the
Identifying detail:

1. Linen stitch motifs
2. Bundled outlines
   (known as ribs or tensitck)
3.  Point de Gaze ground mesh
4. Tiny rings covered with
    buttonhole stitches.
These can be found in the ground
or in the flower centers as shown.
5. both needle and bobbin lace
