A looser version of Brussels lace. Very opulent in design. Valenciennes is made in the same town in the 18th Century and the lace below shows influences of both types.
The designs look flat and more open. Brabant refers to lace designed and made in the same general tradition as Brussels but with designers and with lacemakers whose skills were not as highly developed as those working in Brussels itself -- in other words --more provencial.
Brabant carries the treads into the toile the motifs where Valenciennes does not.
